Advanced neurosurgery without anesthesia carried out in Mashhad

During the neurosurgery, patients are not anesthetized. This advanced surgery was performed by a Dr. Reza Zare and his professional team, on a 40-year-old man with a brain injury. The head of the neurosurgery team at Razavi Hospital, Mashhad, declared: "These surgeries are performed to reduce brain complications in patients with brain tumors related to motor and speech domains or those with treatment - resistant seizures. He added: Anesthesia-free brain surgery in the country is rarely performed. Non-anesthetizing surgery is very critical for patients whose lesions are close to sensitive areas of the brain such as the motor cortex and speech because anesthesia during these types of surgeries may cause damage to other parts of their brain. Being awake during surgery help surgeon when patient is asked to speak or move organs.
