First Cardio-oncology clinic and research center in Asia

Cardio-oncology is a new term to describe the efforts to prevent or treat patients with cancer who face heart problems caused by cancer treatments. Although many cancer patients also have health conditions related to lung disease, infections or kidney disease, the rise of cardiac diseases in these patients has led to the growth of this new field. Cardio-oncology involves cancer doctors (oncologists), cardiologists and researchers. Cardiologists can assess patients for potential risk of developing heart conditions if patients take certain types of cancer drugs, or following radiation treatment to the chest.
The first cardio oncology research center in Asia will be officially opened at the Centre for Educational, Research and Medicine of Shahid Rajaee, Tehran.
In addition to therapeutic service, the cardio oncology research center has been a major research step in the prevention, recognition and treatment of heart complications in cancer patients. Research on the effects of cancer and chemotherapy and the prevention measures for these complications (at the top of them heart failure), and the treatment of complications arising from is among the most important steps of the center to treat cancer patients.
