Common causes of male and female infertility
Many factors influence a couple’s ability to conceive. The inability to conceive is usually due to disorders that affect the normal function of the reproductive system, resulting in obstacles that prevent conceiving. Infertility can be caused by problems with the man or woman, or even completely unknown causes.
Although contrary to what the media often tells the public, the fact is infertility is nearly equally a men’s and women’s issue. Common causes of male infertility include, but are not limited to: sperm quality, quantity, and motility; medical disorders or drugs that reduce fertility; erectile dysfunction, problems with ejaculation, or tube blockage; and genetic disorders affecting sperm production.
Common causes of female infertility include an abnormal uterus, disorders of the Fallopian tubes or cervix, as well as hormonal causes and even premature menopause.

The eggs are then mixed with sperm to make embryos. The embryos are then put back in the woman's body. In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the most common and effective type of ART.
