•A dental crown is a fixed and personalized dental prosthesis, as an artificial crown, for replacement of the original crown of tooth. It covers and seals the entire surface of remaining tooth or dental implant all around right up to the gum line, to protect the tooth underneath and preserve the gum for a long period of time.
•Dental crowns can be fitted to reconstruct teeth which is broken, fractured, damaged because of dental caries or become fragile due to root canal therapy (devitalization), and cannot be treated with simple dental restorations such as dental fillings. They can also be used to improve the appearance and function of discolored, deformed, and deviated teeth.
•A dental crown can be manufactured for an incisor or a molar tooth with different materials including full porcelain (ceramic crown), metal porcelain (porcelain-fused to metal crown), and ceramic metal (zirconia crown). In cases where there are several impaired teeth next to each other, a dental bridge is placed which is a series of connected dental crowns. A suitable treatment plan is adjusted by our expert prosthodontists based on your type of teeth treated and type of materials used.
•The dental crown aesthetically fabricates to reflect light, normal and straight construction like a natural tooth, and simulates the color, shape, size and structure of the surrounding teeth. So, you will find the smile you have always dreamt about.
•Consultation and treatment plan: A comprehensive dental examination, a panoramic X-ray of mouth, a periapical X-ray of tooth and a personalized treatment plan are done by your dental prosthetic specialist.
•Tooth preparation and reduction:Shaping the original tooth is carried out under a local anesthesia. Your prosthodontist will prepare the damaged tooth by removing its outer protective layer and trimming it to about half of its size which allows the placement of dental crown, often results in a root canal therapy of the tooth.
•Mouth impression: An impression of the trimmed tooth and the surrounding teeth is taken by your dental prosthetic specialist.
•Temporary crown placement: Until the new crown is fabricated, a temporary crown is put on the trimmed tooth.
•Permanent crown manufacture: Our laboratory will create the permanent crown and perform any final adjustments.
•Permanent crown fixation: Your prosthodontist will place the crown permanently on the remaining tooth and fix it with a special dental cement above the gum line.
•Dental check-up: You must have the follow-ups and the required dental hygiene care explained by your dental specialist. More x-rays might be taken during the follow-up visits to examine how the crown is fitted on the original tooth in terms of aesthetics, resistance, strength, durability, biocompatibility and function.
•You do not feel pain during the whole procedure performed under local anesthesia by our expert specialists.
•Full porcelain (ceramic) crown, metal porcelain or porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown and ceramic metal (zirconia) crown are the three main types of dental crowns used for replacing the original crowns of teeth. Each type of crown has its own advantages and disadvantages, but this is something that you should discuss with your dentist.
•A ceramic crown is a metal-free dental prosthesis made entirely of white porcelain which is a high-quality material similar to the enamel on natural tooth.
A porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown is a traditional dental prosthesis consist of a nickel-based grey metal structure covered with a layer of white porcelain to reproduce the natural appearance of original tooth. This dental crown is both resistant and aesthetic at the same time due to the metallic structure and the outer porcelain layer, respectively. However, as the inside metal frame reflects some of the light giving a shadow effect to the dental crown, it should not be applied for the front teeth.
A zirconia crown is a metal-based dental prosthesis made of white chrome-cobalt structure completely covered with a layer of white ceramic with no visibility of the metal to maintain the natural beauty of original tooth. Zirconia which is zirconium oxide is the ideal material of present-day restorative dentistry, as it is an exceptional
metal which is very aesthetic, resistant, durable, and biocompatible.
