A Stainless-Steel Crown (SSC) is a fixed and prefabricated metal cap, as an artificial crown, for replacement of the original crown of primary tooth. It covers the entire tooth and is hard to lose or damage and has a smooth polished surface which makes it easy to clean and most lasts four years or more.Stainless Steel Crowns can be fitted to reconstruct primary teeth which are extensively decayed with large or deep multi-surface cavities, or totally broken and fractured, that cannot be treated with simple filling materials. They can also be used to improve the appearance and function of primary teeth that have received pulpal therapy, or have cervical decalcification and developmental defects.

Consultation and treatment plan: A comprehensive dental examination, a panoramic X-ray of mouth, and an appropriate treatment plan are done by your dental pediatric specialist.Tooth preparation and reduction: Shaping the original primary tooth is carried out under a local anesthesia. Your dental pediatrician will eliminate caries and prepare the damaged tooth by removing its outer protective layer and reducing the occlusal height and the mesial and distal surfaces, which allows the placement of Stainless-Steel Crown.Crown selection and adaptation: The prefabricated crowns are tried for their fitness on the prepared tooth to select an appropriate crown with the same size and shape of the primary tooth.Crown fixation: Your dental pediatric specialist will place the crown permanently on the remaining tooth and fix it with a special dental cement above the gum line.Dental check-up: Your child must have the follow-ups and the required dental hygiene care explained by your dental specialist. Your child does not feel pain during the whole procedure performed under local anesthesia by our expert specialists.

A Stainless-Steel Crown (SSC) is a dental restoration for a primary tooth that aims to protect only the tooth it covers from further decay, and does not protect the rest of the teeth from decay. So, it is essential for your child to continue to take good care of their teeth. In addition, this treatment normally requires full cooperation of child with the dentist during the whole procedure, so if your child does not have enough cooperation under the procedures, the treatment can be done under sedation or general anesthesia.
