• Consultation and treatment plan: A comprehensive dental examination, a panoramic X-ray of mouth, and an appropriate treatment plan are performed by your general dentist or oral surgeon specialist.

• Simple extraction: Removing the damaged tooth is done under a local anesthesia.

• Surgical extraction: Removing the broken or impacted tooth is carried out under a local anesthesia.

• Healing process: In both types of tooth removal (simple and surgical), the new bone and gum tissue will grow into the gap which takes from 1 to 2 weeks. If blood clots become displaced from the wound, or the wound becomes infected, recovery may take longer. During this period, you have to maintain perfect oral hygiene and take medications, based on your dentist’s or specialist’s instructions.

• Dental check-up: You must have the follow-ups and the required dental hygiene care explained by your dental specialist. More x-rays might be taken during the follow-up visits to check any post-surgery problems occurred in the surrounding tissues, and to examine how the bone and gum tissue are developing in the lower and upper parts of the gap.

• Tooth extraction is a routine intervention in the field of oral surgery. There are some cases where the tooth can be extracted with a simple process, and in other cases, surgical procedure is needed. Your general dentist or oral surgeon specialist will take an X-ray of the area to help plan the best way to remove the tooth. You should be sure to provide your full medical and dental history and a list of all medicines you take including both prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins and supplements.

• Simple tooth extraction can be considered when a suitable part of the tooth is above the gum. The general dentist pulls it with elevators and forceps. When all parts of the tooth are below the gum, surgical tooth extraction, a more complex procedure should be performed. The general dentist or oral surgeon specialist cuts the gum at the affected area to access the broken or impacted tooth and pulls it with special instruments.
