Femtosecond LASIK is an outpatient surgical procedure to modify the cornea. This technique is used for correcting corneal curvature and improving vision to even 100% in nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The cornea consists of five thin, transparent layers that provide vision by refracting and focusing light. The whole process takes about 5 minutes. The healing time in this safe and effective operation is very quick and daily activities can be resumed after one day. However, the full recovery is obtained within several days.
Before deciding to have femtosecond Lasik surgery, several tests should be performed. Your doctor and you will choose the best surgery method based on the test results and your preferences.
Refractive errors can be corrected through 4 methods:
• Relex smile
• Femto second Lasik
• Implantation of Phakic intraocular lens (IOL) for patients with extreme myopia.
Femtosecond Lasik surgery has eliminated the use of a surgical blade for creating the epithelial flap and the whole process is performed using lasers. Since the laser cuts can be made in any direction, shape, and size, the surgeon has more options to customize the procedure according to the patient's conditions and needs.
