Before surgery, your specialist will examine your eyes comprehensively. Moreover, a systematic examination is accomplished. The operation is done under general anesthesia and includes the following steps:

- An incision is made on the cornea.

- The folded artificial iris is inserted through the incision.

- The implant is unfolded using surgical instruments.

- The eye's structure keeps the artificial iris in its place.

Your surgeon may use sutures if needed.

The aim of this surgery is not correcting refractive problems. Therefore, if the patient uses glasses or contact lenses to correct her/his vision, they still should be worn after the surgery. Fixing myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia may be done by laser.

If you are considering LASIK procedures, they should be completed 4 days before or one month after the iris implant surgery.

After the recovery, you can return to your daily activities. However, it is suggested to limit swimming during the first 3 months.

It is noteworthy that following the surgery your vision may be blurry and cloudy which will disappear gradually after 3 to 5 days. The redness and inflammation will subside during this time as well. It is strongly recommended to avoid rubbing your eyes for several weeks after the surgery according to your doctor’s instructions. You may return to work after 7 to 10 days and resume your workout routine after two weeks.
