Description
PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) is surgery for correcting refractive issues. In this surgery, an excimer laser is used to change the shape of the cornea. PRK can improve the vision in cases of mild to moderate farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism. This method is of high accuracy and most people who undergo this surgery for nearsightedness gain 20/20 vision after 3 to 6 months.

The operation will be performed through these steps:1. A few drops of anesthetics will be used to numb the eyes.2. The eye will be kept open with an eye holder.3. The epithelium layer (the surface layer protecting the layers underneath) will be removed from the cornea.4. A certain amount of corneal tissue will be removed using an excimer laser to reshape it.5. A bandage contact lens which is clear will be put on the cornea for protection during the healing period6. More eye drops will be put in the eyes.7. After 3 days, when the epithelium is healed, the bandage contact lens will be removed by the doctor.
